Fraud Alert for Healthcare Providers

The U.S. Federal Government is warning all healthcare providers about a possible threat from cyber criminals. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), malicious cyber actors are attacking the healthcare sector with Trickbot malware to obtain personal data and disrupt services.

Providers are encouraged to follow these guidelines to keep their practice safe:

  • Don't open attachments, forward or reply to suspicious emails, especially those from unknown senders. It's best to delete emails from senders that you don't recognize.
  • If you receive a suspicious email from someone you know call that person and confirm they sent the email. Threat actors can spoof email accounts of people you know to give a false sense of security.
  • Visit only official websites.

Immediately report suspicious communications, especially those requesting personal information, to the HHS IT Help Desk and your supervisor.

For more information, visit the CISA website or read the full advisory.
