ADA Urges New Administration to Prioritize Oral Health

American Dental Association (ADA) President Daniel J. Klemmedson, D.D.S., M.D., and Executive Director Kathleen T. O'Loughlin, D.M.D., recently sent a letter to President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris requesting that the new administration focus on the following priorities within the first 100 days:

  • Hiring a permanent Chief Dental Officer at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The administration needs to include dentist advisors in all appropriate posts to provide their advice on oral health care.
  • Providing liability protection to small businesses that are required to follow applicable public health guidelines during the pandemic.
  • Asking that all dentists, who are essential healthcare workers, be included in Phase 1a and be part of those who receive early access to the COVID-19 vaccine.
  • Ensuring the availability of medical supplies such as surface disinfectants and personal protective equipment in all dental offices.

The ADA also informed the incoming administration about its efforts to demand from Congress the passage of additional COVID-19 relief legislation, which will ensure the safety and economic stability of all dental practices in the United States.
