Documentation Requirements for CDT code D9248 - Non-Intravenous Conscious Sedation

The safety of our members is of paramount importance when administering non-intravenous conscious sedation as a part of treatment. As a reminder, any provider using non-intravenous conscious sedation must maintain a current permit to do so. When using CDT code D9248, TAC RULE §110.5 requires documentation in the form of a written, time-oriented anesthetic record be maintained. Each of the following components must be included in the anesthetic record and continually monitored and documented at appropriate intervals of no more than 10 minutes:

  • Names and dosages of all drugs administered
  • Names of all individuals present during the administration of the drugs
  • Pulse oximetry
  • Heart rate
  • Respiratory rate
  • Blood pressure
