Preventive services delivered during the annual dental visit are key to the avoidance of tooth decay and periodontal disease in adults. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), nearly 96% of adults aged 65 years or older have had a cavity, and one in five experience untreated tooth decay. Additionally, almost 68% of older adults have gum disease. If left untreated, these conditions can lead to partial or complete tooth loss later in life.
