MCNA ensures that members have the right to access emergency dental services, consistent with the need for such services. Authorization prior to emergency treatment is not required. If you choose to submit an authorization request for emergency services, please be aware that MCNA staff makes every effort to prioritize such requests. The Utilization Management Department reviews all applicable supporting documentation, including x-rays, narrative, and chart notes, to make a determination about the nature and urgency of the authorization request. In order to ensure that all prior authorization requests receive the appropriate level of attention, please only label a prior authorization request as "emergency" if the member's condition is a true emergency.
