The Main Dental Home

Texas defines a Main Dental Home (MDH) as the dental provider that supports an ongoing relationship with the client that includes all aspects of oral health care delivered in a comprehensive, continuously accessible, coordinated, and family-centered way. A member can see his or her MDH Provider, or Main Dentist, at any location in which the provider is credentialed with MCNA.

A member can also see any MCNA-credentialed provider in the same "brick and mortar" facility in which his or her Main Dentist practices without changing the Main Dentist assignment. This only applies, however, to the facility where the member is assigned. For example, a provider is credentialed with MCNA at three facilities. A member is assigned to that provider as his or her Main Dentist at Facility 1. The member can see any MCNA-credentialed provider at Facility 1, but not at Facility 2 or 3. The member can only see his or her Main Dentist at Facilities 2 and 3 unless they obtain a referral from the Main Dentist or choose to change to a different Main Dentist.

In order to support continuity of care, a member is assigned to follow his or her Main Dentist if that provider terminates from one location to move to another. The member will retain assignment with that provider as his or her Main Dentist if the provider is still participating in MCNA's network. The provider must also be at a location within the member's time and distance requirements. If a member's Main Dentist chooses to no longer participate in MCNA's network or moves to a location outside of the appropriate time and distance requirements, the member is automatically assigned to a new Main Dentist. The member can also elect at any time to choose a new Main Dentist.
