According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), tooth decay affects about one out of five children aged 5 - 11 years. Dental sealants are a quick, easy, and painless preventive service that effectively maintains the oral health of a child. Correctly applied, sealants can prevent 80% of cavities in molar teeth, where 9 out of 10 cavities occur. The optimal time to apply sealants is soon after the permanent molars come into a child's mouth, which is around age 6 for 1st molars and age 12 for 2nd molars, to protect against most cavities.

According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), the establishment of a dental home from a very early age and continuing regular visits builds a foundation for the appropriate monitoring and management of dental development. MCNA supports the dental home model for all of our members, and we value the dedication our participating providers show in ensuring the provision of individualized preventive care tailored to meet each member's unique needs. When you build a strong doctor-patient relationship over time, you are well positioned to help your patients avoid oral disease and enjoy good oral health for life.
