Best Practices During a Pandemic

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) released guidance for dentists and their staff to help them safely reopen their offices for elective dental procedures and minimize the risks associated with COVID-19. This important guide covers a hierarchy of engineering and administrative controls specific to the operations within a dental practice including, but not limited to, the assessment of hazards in the office, evaluation of risk by job task, and recommendations on the usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

OSHA has also provided recommendations for and links to further information and resources from the CDC and EPA to help you control the risk of exposure in your office. We recommend that your office carefully review OSHA's Dentistry Workers and Employers guidance at https://www.osha.gov/SLTC/covid-19/dentistry.html. You can also find more valuable guidance on controls not specific to dentistry at https://www.osha.gov/SLTC/covid-19/controlprevention.html#interim_increased_risk.
