A recent analysis from the Health Policy Institute (HPI) supported by the American Dental Association (ADA) presents some of the latest trends in the participation of dentists in Medicaid and CHIP. According to HPI's database, 43% of U.S. dentists participate in Medicaid or CHIP for child dental services. Of those dentists, 49% are female and 41% are male.

Younger dentists between the ages of 21-34 have the highest participation rate at 54%. This percentage decreases for dentists aged 65 and older. In a ranking by state, Iowa took the lead with 77.6% of dentists choosing to participate in Medicaid and CHIP while New Hampshire ranked last with only 15.6% of dentists participating.
