Earth Day, an event observed annually on April 22, is a day to demonstrate and promote environmental awareness. This day was founded by Senator Gaylord Nelson and was first celebrated in 1970. Today, more than 193 countries around the world celebrate Earth Day. It is meant to make the wider public aware of the growing problems of air, water, and soil pollution.

Traditions on and around Earth Day include outdoor activities where people perform different acts of service. These acts range from tree planting and picking up trash to the creation and dissemination of various informational campaigns on recycling and environmental sustainability.
