Healthy People 2030

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced a 10-year plan to address the nation's most critical public health issues. The Healthy People 2030 report outlines 355 priority areas which HHS intends to focus on in the next 10 years. The plan includes new objectives to help people with opioid use disorders, reduce the number of minors who use e-cigarettes, and provide more resources for COVID-19. This comprehensive plan was developed by the HHS Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion and looks at a wide range of health conditions, behaviors, populations, and the different social determinants of good health.

Some of the baseline objectives of the plan are:

  • Reducing tooth decay in children and adolescents.
  • Increasing use of the oral health system.
  • Increasing access to community water fluoridation.
  • Reducing added sugar consumption in people aged 2 years and over.
  • Increasing dental visits for low-income youth.
  • Increasing proportion of children and adolescents with dental sealants on one or more molars.
