New PPE Tax Credit Legislation

The American Dental Association (ADA) announced its support for a new bill asking for a $25,000 tax credit for small businesses. This includes dental practices and allows them to purchase personal protective equipment (PPE) to minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission. Since the start of the pandemic, many dental practices across the country had to limit their services to emergencies only or close completely. In order to continue providing services or reopen, owners have been required to implement new infection control procedures, which include enhanced PPE.

If enacted, the new bill will allow small businesses to apply for a tax credit of up to $25,000. The credit should be used solely for the purchase of buying gloves, medical masks, N95 respirators, eye protection, gowns, aprons, boots, cleaning products, and tools. It can also be used to retrofit or install new equipment in the office.

At a time when dental practices are just beginning to recover from the economic losses caused by COVID-19, this type of credit could help to manage the increased cost of keeping the business open and ensure that patients are safely provided with the dental care they need.
