MCNA works in cooperation with our network providers to ensure that the highest quality services are provided to our members. This is very important to consider when choosing a dental lab to provide services that may be necessary to a member's treatment plan. According to the National Association of Dental Laboratories (NADL), dental labs based in the United States have decreased by 20% since 2004. Part of this decrease is the result of an increased reliance on foreign-based dental labs.

Utilizing US-based dental labs not only supports the local economy, it also helps to ensure you are providing restorations and other dental appliances that are guaranteed to be made with safe and suitable materials.

Your office's choice of dental lab can greatly impact the outcomes your patients' experience. MCNA strongly recommends that you choose to utilize a lab that is local, if possible, which will allow you to visit their premises in person to evaluate the staff and equipment. When assessing a lab, find out if they use FDA-compliant suppliers and materials, and what credentials the lab and its technicians hold. You should ask the lab directly whether they outsource work, and if so, to where. You can also check with the FDA to learn if that lab is a registered importer, which may indicate that they outsource to a foreign-based lab.
